  MARCH
PRAGUE Lundi de Pâques
  APRIL
PRAGUE Witches stake: this old pagan ritual was supposed to keep ghosts away. Bonfires are made on Kampa Island and brooms are burnt in Výstavištĕ.
  16-19 April: Musica Sacra Praga. International choir competition of spiritual music.
  16-23 April: European film festival
  MAY
PRAGUE May Day
PRAGUE 7-10 May: Mozart's Prague. International competition festival of choirs and instrumental ensembles.
PRAGUE 7-10 May: Prague international marathon. The streets of the city center of Prague are closed for this event in order to welcome the runners.
PRAGUE 12 May - 3 June: Prague spring, international music festival. This very famous classic music festival starts on May 12 which was the day when famous Czech composer Bedrich Smetana, died.
PRAGUE 22-30 May: Prague fringe festival. English music, comedies and plays settle in Mala Strana at the end of May.
PRAGUE 22-31 May: Czech beer festival. The largest gastronomic event in the Czech Republic. The best of the Czech breweries, Czech butchers, deli shops and confectioners. 10000 seats with full service in traditional Czech costumes.
PRAGUE 25-30 May: Khamaro. Prague invites you to discover the Rom's music, arts and dance. Parade in Stare Mesto.
  JUNE
PRAGUE 2-26 June: Prague dance. International modern dance festival
PRAGUE 7-11 June: Prague writers'Festival
PRAGUE 18-21 June: Shantyfest. Beautiful shanty songs, colourful display of costumes, variety of traditional and non-traditional instruments charm the audience in the heart of Prague.
PRAGUE 18-21 June: Brass2009Bohemia. 7th year of the most popular Prague get-together for brass bands and wind orchestras.
  JULY
PRAGUE Jan Hus celebration: the death of Jan Hus at the stake in 1415 is celebrated every year on July 6. The bells of Bethlehem chapel ring on the evening eve.
PRAGUE Chamber music festival from the last week-end of July.
  AUGUST
PRAGUE Italian opera festival: the National opera house of Prague welcomes this festival from August to September. Verdi as well as other famous Italian composers are part of the programme.
  SEPTEMBER
PRAGUE Autumn of Prague: this autumnal version of the Spring of Prague takes place at Rudolfinum.
PRAGUE Among the classic music orchestras which are being part of this event ensembles from Germany and the BBC rochestra are duly present.
PRAGUE Burcak fair: this young sweet wine is only irregularly available. Some of the greatest celebrations are in Vinohrady.
  OCTOBER
PRAGUE International jazz festival: founded in 1964 this festival gives a chance to listen great Czech and International musicians. At first inaugurated in Reduta Jazz Club it grew up to Lucerna Music Bar.
  NOVEMBER
PRAGUE All Saints Day: candles are lighted for the soul of the dead ones -creating a very particular atmosphere in the Prague's cemeteries- on November 2.
PRAGUE Celebration of the Velvet Revolution: November 17
  DECEMBER
PRAGUE Christmas-New Year: are just the magic periods! A tall Christmas-tree is settled on the Old Town Square nearby a Christmas market. Christmas markets, decorations and smells of hot wine liven-up the entire city!
  JANUARY
PRAGUE Epiphany comes at the end of Christmas celebrations with songs and gifts offered to the poorest.
Every January 19, the Czechs are gathering in the Wenceslas square to commemorate Jan Palach's death.
  FEBRUARY
PRAGUE Masopust was strictly forbidden by the communists. Carnival reappeared in Zizkov in 1993. This is still the most festive part of the city from Friday to the end of Carnival on fatty Tuesday when it ends with a dressed-up parade.
PRAGUE Saint Matthew fair: from February 24 to Easter, Vystaviste becomes a vast funfair.
